About the Event

Globally, there has been immense focus on Climate and Emission Reduction related commitments, especially in diesel intensive sectors such as Mining & Construction, which drive off-highway / construction demand. “Net Zero” commitments by 2050 are now fast making their way to India as well and are likely to gain momentum with announcements at the recently concluded COP26 summit.

As per the vision and guidance of Government of India, it is imperative for Indian CE Industry to consider adoption of emission reduction technologies. As the economic viability of emerging fuels such as hydrogen gets established in the long-term, bio-diesel is a potentially viable alternative for the Indian Construction Equipment Industry.

Much Still needs to be done to improve the availability and consistency of bio-diesel supply in India and also clarify the regulatory landscape around the adoption of this fuel. Successful introduction and adoption of bio-diesel for CEVs will require collaborative partnerships across the entire fuel and equipment value chain.

ICEMA’s Bio-Diesel Summit aims to bring together leading thinkers, academia, regulatory bodies and industry practitioners across the bio-diesel value chain and the CE industry to chart out a practical & actionable roadmap for adoption of this alternate fuel by the Indian CE industry.

Mr. Nitin Jairam Gadkari Hon’ble Union Minister of Road Transport & Highways Government of India Mr. Nitin Gadkari is the Minister for Road Transport and Highways (RTH), Government of India. Mr. Nitin Gadkari was born on 27th May 1957 in a middle-class family with roots in agriculture in Maharashtra’s orange-city Nagpur. Mr. Gadkari got involved very closely with the Rashtriya Swayam Sevak Sangh (RSS) and the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) and took to social work in a big way.

Mr. Gadkari completed his Post-Graduation in Commerce, besides studying Law and obtaining a Diploma in Business Management. Mr. Gadkari formally entered politics in 1980. Principally he believe that Politics is an instrument to bring socio-economic reforms in society. He went on to become BJP’s State President in Maharashtra in 2005. He was elevated to the post of party’s National President at the young age of 52 in 2009. He also served as PWD Minister in Maharashtra Government and was leader of the opposition in the state legislative council for four consecutive terms.

Mr. Gadkari is committed to adopt a transport fuel which is import-substitute, cost effective, indigenous and pollution-free. Under Mr. Gadkari’s guidance, the city of Nagpur was the first city to explore alternative biofuels for transportation including bio-CNG, bio-ethanol and LNG. Mr. Gadkari is also introducing flex engines to be run on 100% ethanol, and launched a first ever tractor run on bi-CNG, thus providing additional income to farmers and the agricultural sector.

Under his supervision, over 40,000 kms of National Highways have been constructed in the last 7 years and 60, 0000 kms of new roads are being constructed currently. Twenty two world class access-controlled Green field expressway projects being led by Mr Gadkari under Bharatmala pariyojana, are presently in various stages of construction. He is the man behind marvelous engineering showcases like Bandra-Worli Sea Link, 55 flyovers in Mumbai, India‘s First Mumbai-Pune Expressway, 14-lane Delhi-Meerut Expressway, Nagpur’s multi-layer metro rail cum flyover system and upcoming high-tech Delhi-Mumbai expressway.

35 multi-modal logistics park, 50 economic corridors and 10 intermodal stations are currently being developed under Mr Gadkari’s tenure. Among his other endeavors, unprecedented progress is evident in port industrialization, national water highway traffic, jetties for coastal tourism, Ganga-Yamuna cleaning, fund raising, asset monetization project, etc. He is now taking a lead in development of new sustainable mobility and last mile connectivity modes like Ropeway, Cable car, Funicular rail, etc. across the country.

Mr. Gadkari introduced the first ever Vehicle Scrappage Policy which proved to be the fight against pollution in the interest of Road and Vehicle safety. New FASTAG policy is helping commuters to
save their fuel and time on toll plazas. Some of his major work includes unprecedented push for R&D in electric vehicles for developing alternative battery chemistries such as Sodium ion and Aluminum ion batteries and hydrogen fuel cells. With waste to wealth policy, Mr. Gadkari is promoting use of new, advanced and recycled waste materials into road infrastructure construction. He is encouraging tree plantation along the highways, installation of solar panels, rain water harvesting and artificial groundwater recharge systems.

During his tenure as the Union Minister Water Resources and Ganga Rejuvenation, the monumental Namami Gange project became a mass movement involving central and state government agencies, private sector and foreign investors, NGOs, spiritual and social organizations as well as the common people. With his political stature he resolved inter-state disputes on water sharing and river linking involving 16 rivers in 11 states in a short span of six months. During his tenure, first Inland Waterway was developed, and goods movement was commenced between Varanasi and Kolkata, adding new dimension to logistical history of the country.

Suhas Baxi is Co-Founder of BiofuelCircle (www.biofuelcircle.com ).

Suhas’s professional work has included strategy, organization, systems and people. He is passionate about role of data and digital technology in conventional businesses. In a career spanning more than 33 years, he has led companies in energy, software and manufacturing sectors.

His initial grooming and learning happened at Thermax- a leader in global market for energy and environment engineering business. He spent 14 years in various sales leadership roles in India, Asia and the US covering segments such as Industrial Heating, Distributed Generation and Engineering Services.

His interest in technology resulted in a stint with American startup (Triple Point Technology) which was focused on Software Products for Energy Trading and Risk Management. He led the company’s Asian business and helped establish its India Development Center.

Prior to the founding of BiofuelCircle, Suhas was Managing Director of Konecranes and Demag Private Limited. Here he led the South Asian business of this Finnish-German multinational (www.konecranes.com)- a global leader in area of Industrial and Port Lifting solutions.

Earlier, he was President and CEO at Pennar Industries (NSE: PENIND) where he led diversification of the processed steel company in to engineering products.

Amongst his Industry affiliations, he is independent Director on the board of Bioenergy major Praj Industries (www.praj.net) , member Board of advisors at video sharing platform kPoint Technologies (www.kpoint.com ) and advises indiaopd.com – a company focused on digitization of doctor- patient interface

Suhas has also been an active member of industry body CII where he was Chairman of Pune Zonal Council in 2010-11 and has been member of National Council of CII for Higher Education. Currently he is President of the Pune chapter of CEO Clubs of India (https://www.ceoclubsindia.org/ ).

Suhas is a Mechanical Engineer from VNIT Nagpur and obtained management training at IIM Ahmedabad and Harvard Business School. A sports buff, Suhas is an active runner and golfer and loves photography.

Wife – Neeta spent her early career in FMCG and Telecom industry before turning an entrepreneur. An amateur painter, Neeta brings to life natural landscapes in Water and Acrylic.

Son – Mihir is a budding Economist and currently works with a consulting firm in London.

A PhD in Chemical Engineering, Dr Anuradda has 25 years of teaching and research experience at the Department of Energy Science and Engineering, Indian Institute of Technology Bombay (IITB). She is a global expert on alternate fuels and renewable energy and has publications in reputed journals with over 4000 citations. Honouring her expertise, in 2008, Dr. Anuradda was invited as a visiting faculty at Purdue University where she enhanced global collaboration and extended her learning as well. After completing her term as the Head of the Department of Energy Science and Engineering, IIT Bombay, in 2013, she joined the Industry, and is currently the
Director and Chief Technical Advisor at Cummins Technologies India Pvt Ltd. (CTIPL). She advises on innovative technology, regulatory trends and policy. She also advises on University and Government collaboration areas and strategic
partnerships. In her earlier roles, she established and led the Research and Innovation for Cummins Tech Center (India), to address the fit-for-market requirements for Cummins India products. She was the Director of Cummins Research and Technology India, focusing on application of Analysis Led Design tools to reduce time and cost of product development.

She continues her association with Academia as Adjunct Professor at the Centre of Policy Studies, IIT Bombay. She has contributed extensively to the field of renewable energy. Her research spans across different subjects including alternate fuels (producer and syngas), chemicals (using supercritical fluid extraction) from biomass and “smart-carbon”, underground coal gasification, and energy systems modelling. She has contributed to the subject with over 60 international publications, over 4000 citations, supervised 16 PhDs and has half a dozen granted patents.

In 2020, she was inducted as a Fellow of the Indian Nation Academy of Engineering. She is the recipient of the SWE Prism Award in 2021 for her impact on Society as well as the engineering community. She has shared her journey and tips in an e-book published in 2021, by Confederation of Indian Industries (CII) on 51 Indian women achievers in STEM.
